Low-impact kayaking in the Bay of Fundy

The upper Bay of Fundy is one of the most powerful tidal environments on Earth. Twice a day, the world’s highest tides reshape salt marshes, mudflats, and sandstone cliffs that support birds, fish, and coastal wildlife.

Kayak Fundy operates inside the Fundy Biosphere Region, a UNESCO-recognised landscape that balances conservation with community livelihoods. We treat this place not as a playground, but as a shared responsibility.

Our goal is simple: to help people experience the Bay gently, safely, and with respect – leaving it as wild as we found it.

What stewardship means to us

Stewardship and regenerative tourism sound technical. For us, they are practical:

• take less than we give
• minimise waste and disturbance
• support local people and businesses
• teach respect for nature
• leave the environment better, not just unharmed

When you paddle with us, you are part of that effort.

How we reduce our impact

On the water

  • Small groups to protect wildlife and shorelines
  • Quiet, human-powered travel – no motors or fuel
  • Low-impact landings and “leave no trace” practices
  • Guides trained to interpret ecology, tides, and geology

In our operations

  • No single-use or disposable items
  • Reusable containers and bags
  • All waste packed out and sorted or composted
    Durable gear repaired and reused
  • Local and regional suppliers wherever possible

In our community

  • Hiring and training local staff
  • Supporting neighbouring farms and businesses
  • Sharing knowledge about Bay of Fundy ecosystems
  • Respecting the traditional territories of the Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik peoples

Guided by global standards

Our everyday choices align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially:

• climate action
• life below water
• life on land
• responsible consumption
• decent local work

These principles shape how we guide, buy, hire, and host.
